MY STORY

Jonah Carson Dennis
Hi there, I’m Jess! Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, now based in Nashville, Tennessee and available for travel worldwide.
I stumbled into the world of Super 8 in a way I never expected. After my younger brother, Jonah, passed in 2022, our family came across his collection of old Super 8 cameras. Not long after, a dear friend and photographer invited me to shoot a wedding alongside her. Out of curiosity, I brought one of the cameras with me, despite having no filming experience or knowledge of Super 8 film.
Somewhere between the moments of the day, the quiet clicks of the camera, and seeing the film come back from the lab, I completely fell in love with the process. Every opportunity I’ve had since has only confirmed that God knew exactly what He was doing when He led me to my brother’s cameras.
There’s something about Super 8 that feels incredibly honest. You can’t overshoot. You can’t endlessly redo a moment. You have to be present, anticipating what matters.
I love being there on people's most special day, noticing the small moments as they unfold, just as much as I love sitting at home later, piecing those memories together frame by frame. Whether it’s a celebration close to home or somewhere across the world, there’s something incredibly special about preserving those moments on film.
For me, Super 8 isn’t just about documenting a wedding. It’s about preserving the feeling of it in a way that will still mean something decades from now. My hope is that when you watch your film years from now, it brings you right back to the way the day actually felt - the quiet moments, the laughter, and the people you love most all in one place. If you think Super 8 might be the right fit for your day,, I'd love to hear all about it.
